As of 2015, with its 60 years of experience, ODTÜ is an international research university that
- obtains 30-35% of its annual budget from competitive national and international research funds,
- at any time over the last 5 years, has conducted 400+ projects supported by TÜBİTAK and /or other national sources, 60+ projects funded by the European Union and other international sources, and 1000+ projects in collaboration with industry,
- has conducted the most projects in Turkey within the European Union Framework Programs, in FP7, and has collaborated with more than 700 international organizations,
- is placed at the highest ranks in the “Entrepreneurial and Innovative University” index every year with its transfer of information to industry and the public,
- creates high impact research output in different fields of priority for development by conducting important research and development projects of Turkey and Europe, particularly in aeronautics, space, defense, renewable energy, electronics, biotechnology and biomaterial, informatics-communication technologies, and microelectromechanic systems,
- conducts interdisciplinary research-and development activities ,works in collaboration with the ındustrial and public sector, produces 30% the income obtained from R&D activities conducted at the university, and has more than 25 centers of excellence,
- established the first Central Laboratory,
- has a graduate student population that constitutes 30% of its total student population,
- offers research-intensive undergraduate education, and 40% of whose alumni pursue graduate education,
- graduates more than 250 doctoral students every year,
- has gained international recognition through its research outputs and performance, and has succeeded in earning its place among the first 100 universities (Times Higher Education Ranking).
